Plaza Song

Written July 2005 in San Pedro, Mexico as a deal with Paul to write a song by the time he returned. It is a collection of images from our Sunday nights spent at the town plaza. We recorded the song in our room in San Pedro with Paul's new recording equipment.

Words and music by David. Guitars and vocals by David. Mandolin, bass, and harmonica by Paul.

Verse 1
Small town in Mexico,
Sunday night everybody goes
Down to the plaza just killing time
With bingo, carnivals and pick-up lines,
But mostly we just walk around,
Taking in the sights and sounds
Of the place.

And the grandpas are a-dancin’
While the flirting chavos say . . .

Chorus
"Hey, hey, don’t I know you?
I think we met the other day.
One small kiss before we go now
And we’ll be on our way."

Verse 2
A small town is a funny thing,
Learning to love the small joys it brings.
Some say that nothing changes here,
That boredom’s hanging in the air,
But there’s some answer to the soul’s demands
As the late nights talking at the taco stands
Fade away.

And the grandpas still are dancin’
While the flirting chavos say . . .

Bridge
And in every crowd there’s a face you know,
A hand to shake and a friend to hold.
Soon you find it begins to feel like home.

It’s getting late but they’re still dancin’,
And those guys will always say . . .

Innocence Again by Switchfoot

I was living down in San Pedro, Mexico with my friend Paul. A bunch of us friends had just given Paul some new recording equipment for his birthday. What better way to inaugurate the new equipment than to record one of our favorite songs by our favorite band, Switchfoot!

Words and music by Switchfoot. Vocals, background vocals, and electric guitars by David. Background vocals, falsetto vocals, acoustic guitar, bass, and djembe by Paul.
